This ringing proclamation has been sounding down the halls of time for two thousand years. It started, in the beginning, when God told Eve that He would put a seed in her that would crush the serpent’s head; and the serpent would bruise His heel. God continued to tell man personally and through his prophets that Salvation is coming. He sent Moses with the law of sacrifice as foreshadowing of the Final Sacrifice. Finally, one evening, the angels from Heaven proclaimed the birth of the Savior. When this infant became a man, He began to proclaim repentance and the Kingdom of God. His followers were fervent. His enemies were rabid. He was recognized as a king. He came as a servant. He proved He was man. He proved He was God.

He came to save, deliver and heal. He came to fulfill the Law. He came to be the Lamb of God which takes away the sins of the world. His blood paid it all. “IT IS FINISHED!” They laid Him in the tomb and rolled the stone in front with a Roman Guard detail. On the third day, the angel from heaven rolled away the stone. The Roman Guard fell down as dead. And, the victorious Christ rose from the dead; the first fruit of Resurrection. He is coming back. Be ready. Watch and wait for your Redemption draws near.

HE IS RISEN! HE’S ALIVE!

HOLY DAYS

It’s that time of year people celebrate. A time when family and friends get excited about giving thanks to God, celebrating the birth of His Son, Jesus, and looking forward to the new year. Our celebrations include lights, food, gifts, music, singing; joyful expressions of our love for one another and for our God.

It’s that time of year people deplore. When the brokenhearted and downtrodden become gloomy. When painful memories clash with the joyful sights and sounds of Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s. When the present realities of poverty and sickness clash with the visions of abundance and good health.

It’s that time of year when the Believers in Christ give food to the the hungry, drink to the thirsty, clothing to the naked, shelter to the homeless, visit the prisoner and visit the sick.

It’s that time of year when the Believers in Christ give the Good News of Jesus to the helpless, the hopeless, the least, the last and the lost.

It’s that time of year when we discover that it is more blessed to give than to receive.

It’s that time of year when Southern New Hampshire Rescue Mission puts out the call for volunteers and donors to support and coordinate the efforts of local churches to fulfill the commandments of Christ.

IT’S THAT TIME OF YEAR
TO TRULY
MAKE THIS SEASON
HAPPY HOLY DAYS!

Two dozen men from Merrimack Valley Baptist Church’s Men’s Missions Group came to Southern New Hampshire Rescue Mission, to kick-off construction of our Kitchen Project. We have received a donation of well over a hundred thousand dollars worth of good used kitchen equipment. Thousands of dollars have been donated to pay for the installation of the new exhaust hood and fire suppression system, new floors, walls, and ceilings, new electrical and new plumbing. To this date, volunteers have been cooking food off-premises and catering meals into to feed the hungry. Soon, we will have a modern kitchen facility to prepare, cook and serve meals on-premises. What a Mighty God We Serve!

Two years ago, I came to Nashua knowing nobody. I started work, continuing the Rescue Mission’s purpose of building a homeless shelter where the Salvation of Christ is taught, and disciples are made. Daily, God has brought people to serve His cause. Today, I know hundreds, even thousands of people who have played a part is serving Christ and His ministry. Each one has been a champion to the Cause of Christ.

I would like to introduce you to one such champion. Her name is Meg Christian, from Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Meg’s mother Sue Christian, called the Mission, and told me she had a seventeen-year-old daughter who had written a book, and gotten it published. Meg wanted to give the proceeds from her book to the homeless, but ran into a problem. Wolfeboro, being a resort town, doesn’t have a lot going on with or for the homeless. In the course of searching the Internet for organizations that help the homeless, they found our web-site. They liked what they saw, and decided they wanted to donate the proceeds from the sales of Meg’s book to the Southern New Hampshire Rescue Mission. (This was one of those Ding! Ding! Ding! moments. Because, just days before she called, Pastor Ron Gann, of Bridgeway Christian Church, had put up our new web-site with our new logo. WOW!)

It turns out that Meg’s father is the pastor of First Christian Church of Wolfeboro. The Mission was invited to Wolfeboro to present our ministry to the church. The resulting outpouring of love, support, donors, and volunteers has been incredible. I am reminded of how a little boy came to Jesus with a few loaves of bread and a couple of fish and fed thousands.

In an effort to help Meg stimulate sales, we teamed up to speak at Londonderry Christian Church. That was where I first heard her motivation for wanting to help the poor and the homeless. She told of being raised in a godly family in a beautiful resort town where they did not know poverty. When she was fourteen-years-old, a trip to Italy changed that. While exploring the streets of Rome, Meg saw the poor and homeless up close and personal for the first time. She told how she saw a long line of men in front of a building, squatting down with cans in front of them, begging for money. All the cans were empty, except for the last man at the end. He had a dog, and a sign that read: PLEASE FEED MY DOG. That man’s can was full, and this really bothered her. How could people care more about a stinkin’ dog than all the other poor men begging for help?

Meg told God that she would write a book, and she would give all the proceeds to the needy. Meg has written two books on her way to completing a trilogy called “The Last Rawl”. It is a fantasy thriller with a salvation theme. She has committed the proceeds of her sales to the Southern New Hampshire Rescue Mission.

Not only is Meg a published author, she is also an accomplished musician and vocalist. Meg Christian is currently studying the Bible and music at a Christian college.

Two years ago, the Mission looked like a saloon from days gone by. Visitors would stop by and reminisce. It had once been a social club -a speakeasy. The nostalgia was thick in this place. The stories were legendary and bawdy.

Quickly, the transformation began. A few hits with sledgehammer and crowbar eliminated the old bar. The old beer cooler has been turned into a shower room. The bandstand, moldy with spilt beer, was demolished. Tiled floors, also moldy, were lifted up. Decades of smoking had covered everything with a thick nicotine tar. What once was shiny stainless steel looked like tarnished brass.

The volunteers came streaming in. The first batch, was a group of young adults; all the way from Milwaukee. Local churches began supplying, finances, people and resources.

The transformation has been steady and dramatic.

A local church adopted the dormitory and made it new; wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling. A church up-country supplied the new heat/air exchanger, duct work, shower valves, toilets and urinals.

A missionary who builds churches in Mexico, provided the masonry work. His plumber buddy, who also ministers in Mexico, provided the plumbing.

An electrician has been faithful to string out all the wires and tie everything in.

A volunteer charitable organization cut the floor and installed a new staircase.

A teen-age girl has authored and published a trilogy; proceeds of sales directed to the Mission.

A recording artist raised funds with a concert.

A factory closes and donates its kitchen equipment.

A Christian Camp donates beds.

A furniture company donates lockers and computer tables.

A retired pastor offers his library. A retired construction engineer cuts trees on his property, mills the lumber and builds bookcases. A local librarian is cataloging the books. But, our neighbors are way ahead of us. They have been borrowing and returning our books since we carried them in with banana boxes. The Jesus Library started functioning all by itself.

A raging anti-God atheist, who is usually reeling drunk, finally repents and converts to Christ Jesus. The man has enrolled in a one-year Bible Study program to transform his mind to Christ’s.

Psalm 127 says, “Unless the LORD build the house; they labour in vain that build it”

Happy New Year!

Yes, we have a new month, a new year, and a new decade.
We are a people who like to start things new.
Jesus said, “You must be born again.” – A new birth!
The Word says, “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature. Old things are passed away; behold all things are new.”

The Mission has a fledgling New Life Discipleship Program. New Life Discipleship consists of living, working, studying the Word and ministering to the poor & homeless at Southern New Hampshire Rescue Mission. The men who join the Program have made a dedicated choice to follow Jesus.

Currently, we have a man who has been a Disciple for five months. There are two other men who have recently joined. We have various pastors, and men of God, who come to teach, minister, and mentor these Disciples. The Disciples become a witness and a testimony to men, women and children, who see the Grace of God working in their lives.

Please pray for all our clients and especially for our New Life Disciples.

We are nearing completion of our construction projects; which include handicapped access, two rest rooms, shower room, day room and dormitory.

Come visit and see what the LORD has built.

New Life in Jesus,
Carlos Salamanca
servant to all
